Essential Loading & Packing Tips

Loading & Packing Tips

  • Distribute Weight Evenly: Do not put all heavy items on one side. Balance the load to prevent shifting during transit.
  • Pack Vertically & Tightly: Maximize space by packing from wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. A tighter pack means less movement.
  • Load heavy to Light: Place heavy appliances and furniture on the floor. Lighter boxes should be stacked on top.
  • Use Proper Protection: Wrap furniture in blankets rather than plastic, which can trap moisture.
  • Fill Empty Space: Use cushions, pillows, and mattresses to fill gaps between items, reducing the chance of items falling.
  • Disassemble Furniture: Take apart beds and table legs to save space and reduce breakage risk.

What to Avoid

  • Overloading: Do not exceed the weight capacity of the unit.
  • Leaving Gaps: Gaps allow items to shift and fall.
  • Using Plastic on Wood: Moisture can get trapped and damage wood furniture.
  • Loading Damp Items: Ensure everything is dry to prevent mildew.
  • Packing Hazardous Materials: Do not pack liquids, aerosols, or flammable items.
  • Putting Valuables Right at the Door: The last items loaded (near the door) are the most prone to shifting and potential moisture.

Pro-Tips for Success

  • Use Small Boxes for Heavy Items: Keep books and kitchen items in small, manageable boxes.
  • Create Sections: Use mattresses, large boxes, or furniture to create wall-like, structural sections.
  • Secure Items: Utilize straps or bungee cords to tie items down to the interior walls.
  • Lock It: Use a secure lock to keep your belongings safe.
